Combine that with the DLC and assorted "collectible" editions and you could go as high as $70 or higher. Great value, sure, and excellent potential for replay, but adding a multi-player option would either make that really awful, or detract from the game in general.
Sure, I'm not saying anyone lost money over AC, obviously, but it ultimately is a question of budget and where that would go to the best use. Considering that for this class of game, development costs run between 18 and 30 million dollars (and these are games without celebrity voices like Hamill and Conroy plus celebrity writers like Paul Dini), that means Rocksteady already has to sell over a million to see a profit in the first place. A million units sold is small potatoes, sure, considering it sold about six million in it's first week, but those numbers do add up.
Again, I'm not saying there aren't any really good multiplayer games that manage to pull this off, but I also don't think it was a mistake for Rocksteady to concentrate on an amazing, re-playable single player experience rather than spread the same budget around, or demand a much higher price for the final product.
I also think it is what it is, apples and oranges.
