    Jokers dark secret

    Hi guys.
I've had this thought for quite some time but only now have I decided to tell you all about it. The reason its taken me so long is because I've been searching all over the internet to see if anyone else has noticed this, but nobody has, at least not to my knowledge (this is probably not an easter egg).
In the joker interview tapes I noticed something odd in the fifth tape. In this tape Joker admits that the chemical incident was made up along with 12 other stories which he told to previous doctors. The only thing the stories had in common is that Batman appears in them. Strange asks Joker if he will ever succumb to the truth. Joker then avoids answering by changing the subject.
Could this mean that the Jokers origin is to be discovered in the next game. Could Joker have a dark connection with Batman which he refuses to tell! Let me know what you think!

The Ace Chemicals accident happened, Batman was the one who caused it. It's his life before becoming the Red Hood that's in question. I really doubt we'll ever get an answer, especially not in a game.

Is one of the stories... in the Deadly Joke (I think that's the right name in english) he admits thats one of this "origins". No one know the real "begins" of Joker.

It's The Killing Joke. He was referring to him being a failed comedian who was set up. That part was made up or maybe it wasn't. The chemical incident however has been referenced by other characters, such as Batman and police reports, as actually having happened along with him being the Red Hood before the incident.

In the Killing Joke Joker says that he imagines his past in different ways. The question at the end is whether the origin in the comic is real or not.

The Killing Joke origin is the accepted origin of the Joker, it is even brought up in The Man Who Laughs.

And again in Under the Red Hood when Batman mentions Joker's time as Red Hood and what ended it. Then again in Gotham Knights when Nygma promised Joker to reveal what happened to his pregnant wife in return for protection against Hush.

    Re: Jokers dark secret

I greatly prefer the Joker origin found in Lovers & Madmen over the one found in The Killing Joke, the comedian husband/father back-story is pretty lame IMO. Lovers & Madmen makes Batman directly responsible for the Joker & brings clarity to their relationship like no other book has. Hopefully RS pulls their inspiration from this instead of the Killing Joke. The Killing Joke is a great book but not because of the Joker origin story.

Sadly, not many people have read Lovers & Madmen. I'd highly recommend it if you haven't read it.

The thing I like most about Joker is the fact that you don't really know much about him. At face value, he is a murderous psychopath who dresses up like a clown to terrorise people. But if you look deeper, you find that a terrible accident involving chemicals and Batman caused him to look the way he does. He's still a murderous psychopath, but I find him interesting because we don't know the exact circumstances surrounding the Ace Chemicals accident.

I agree that the less you know the more interesting the character is. I definitely don't like it when writers try to make you feel sorry for the Joker with a tragic past, it's cliche'. Joker needs to be evil, you can't be evil & sympathetic at the same time IMO.
