Update
Tried a steam game Bioshock 2. Got SP Launcher to run by running as administrator after vcredistX86 install. Was able to use offline account but trying online account puts me in the update do-loop. Tried opening windows firewall and turning it off but no help. Both games running fine in off-line mode. Steam games don't show as downloaded in steam new install. Also have clear sky downloaded - might try that next.
Also can't run the game since I updated to Windows 8. All other GfWL games (Bulletstorm, Dirt2, Lost Planet2) I have run fine and without problems. It's only Arkham City that gives me trouble so I guess it's WB/Rocksteady's fault. Hope they patch it.
Been trying every solution described here but no luck. Can't even get it to work in offline mode via BACTU1
Hi guys,
I've been struggling with this for almost two days now and I finally found a way to at least save the game. I found this video on youtube which shows how to do it. You simply create a local profile instead of logging into GFWL. When you do that, the game doesn't check for updates so you're not forced to update and hence don't lose the GFWL overlay. You can't unlock the achievement but that doesn't really matter to me; at least I can play properly now.

I'm having the same problem with a copy purchased retail at a Gamestop several months back. Windows 7.
I have to say that I'm stunned that nobody from the publisher has offered any sort of an acknowledgement of the issue. This is a 2011 title and it's more or less unplayable because I can't save my game. I shouldn't have to hit some YouTube workaround to get the use of the product I paid for. Is there anybody out there on this?
This doesn't help me at all, because my issue (and that of many others) is that Games for Windows Live doesn't show - AT ALL. So I can't even switch to the offline account, which is something I usually do anyway...
I really hope that Microsoft is gonna fix Games for Windows Live at some point, because if it's up to Rocksteady, it's probably never gonna happen. Assuming that MS can do something about that from their end... Batman Arkham City is the sole Games for Windows Live game (to my knowledge) that doesn't show the GfWL client ingame on Windows 8...
I was so looking forward to playing this game again and now I can't anymore just because I installed Windows 8.
It's "funny" how every forum that has anything to do with Arkham City has now at least one topic describing the problem, but there's no reaction.![]()
