Arkham Asylum - will Rocksteady ever clean up this little mess?

    Hey guys!

Here's a funny thing I found. Remember the PS3 exclusive Joker DLC for Arkham Asylum? Apparently it's not that exclusive afterall.

You can access to the Joker DLC in the Mac version too, but what's even more curious is that a clever guy over at Steam forums managed to port the Joker DLC from Mac to PC, fully functioning just like an officially released version. It was not even achieved by actual porting, all you have to do is buy the Mac version, install it on a Mac then copy some of its files to your PC install directory. Here are the details:

    http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2282715

    Some gameplay footage on PC:

I don't know if Rocksteady did this on purpose or not but looks like we have a Mac and a PC port of a console exclusive DLC, but anyway thank you guys. The only problem is that you can't get this to work on the Game of the Year Edition so you'll have to buy the original one - don't worry if you have the GOTY as you can get Arkham Asylum for like 5 bucks now.

I just posted this because if Rocksteady or WB or the company who has the publishing rights (Eidos / Square Enix?) has any plans to re-relase the complete Arkham Asylum (maybe as part of an AA / AC combined release) they should keep this in mind because only for this extra content I think a lot of people would buy the game. Also it seems a little unfair (though I don't really care because I play on PC) that now the only main platform that has no access to the Joker DLC is Xbox 360. Don't leave those guys out of this content because it's a really special DLC and is tons of fun.

Its an old game now, one you can find in most Bargain bins if you go looking for it, Exclusive really only has validity for the "immediate" life span of a game, once its been replaced by a sequel then it doesnt really matter anymore...I am an xbox user and it doesnt bother me, I still own the original game I got on release day of Ayslum, I have some but not all DLC and with Arkham City I have all the DLC with just HQR to go, only ever revist Ayslum to replay the story so..any DLC for it doesnt really matter now

Arkham Asylum is not that old compared to way older PC games that are selling in significant numbers on Steam or GOG (on GOG I see games like Beyond Good and Evil or Planescape Torment on the bestselling list). The other thing is that the game is dirt cheap now and the Joker DLC is worth at least 5 dollars which could mean a little extra money at the end os AA's lifetime. Also on a technical level AA is still a game that looks and plays good, people will be playing it even 10 years from now. I know that older games are forgotten on consoles but on PC there is still money to be earned here, especially now that it seems porting the Joker DLC "officially" has absolutley no cost for PC which makes me think that it's as easy for Xbox 360.

The last significat thing that comes to my mind is that the Joker DLC is actually the only really special content for Arkham Asylum. It has 8 maps (fighting and also predator maps among those) and some fun extras like you can play the Joker, beat down Arkham security guards like Cash, cops and Commisioner Gordon with him.

I bought a bargain bin copy of Arkham Asylum just for this as I've only had the GOTY Edition and it's absolutely on the quality of the Robin and Nightwing DLCs for Arkham City. Joker has some fun special moves and gadgets, has funny one-liners and overall is totally crazy. It does not really bother me that I have to fire up a 3 year old game to see good content that is new to me.

Thanks for the heads up, we were not aware of this problem and have fed back to our publisher.

When you say "this problem," I hope you're refering to the unavailability to the content, and saying you'll solve it by making sure it's made available (even at a price) on all platforms, including the GOTY edition.

I really hope you're not saying it's a problem that the content is available in the first place, and that you plan to solve it by restricting it even more.

In the case of the former, if you're planning on making the Joker DLC officially available, please don't forget about the Prey in the Darkness DLC (with the Heart of Darkness and Hothouse Prey maps). It's not available on certain platforms in certain regions. If I remember correctly, outside of Europe, it's unavailable on PC and Xbox, (but it's available on both those platforms in Europe, and it's available on PS3 outside Europe). Since it's not region-exclusive, and it's not platform-exclusive, so I've never understood why, say, PC users in North America have to miss out on it, and why it wasn't included in the GOTY edition.

I also hope blocking the content will not be the answer, but logic tells me that it won't because it's already out there (if they release a patch to block the content it's obvious that everyone who bought the game will switch to a NoCD crack so it's pointless). Releasing it officially or doing nothing are the options here.

As for the other DLCs I suggest you read the guide I posted a link to in the first post because the Joker DLC and other DLCs can't be separated on the Mac version so if you follow those steps and get the files from the Mac version you'll have all the unreleased DLCs, the Mac version includes Prey in the Darkness as well as the Gamestop exclusive Scarecrow level. So basically your problem is solved, all you have to do is buy a non-GOTY Arkham Asylum for PC (if you don't have one) and a GOTY Edition for Mac / but I think that a lot of people will help you with providing the missing files for PC so you maybe don't have to buy it for Mac also if you don't have Mac OS.

Another funny thing someone told me: the Joker DLC is not available in the PSN store anymore, so now we can say it's Mac / PC exclusive. Something is messed up here.

You know about it, and I know about it. I just want to make sure Rocksteady remembers it. I don't want them somehow forgetting those maps if they decide to finally add the Joker DLC to AA's PC GOTY edition. Since they're in the UK, they might not even realize that those maps are still unavailable elsewhere.

(Note that I posted on that Steam thread way back in December. )

The Joker DLC sounds like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I only have the GOTY version of AA.

I don't get why it wasn't included, or even released for PC.

I feel a bit cheated, to be honest.

Let the PC have their fun. Xbox can't have Joker because of their policy rule which they can't accept exclusives that weren't for the Xbox in the first place. By the way, in no way i'm saying this is fair.
