I thought the patch was supposed to fix the misisng save file issue

I had to reformat my machine. The last time I did this was before the patch. Upon restoring the game from my steam backup, the game save downloaded from steam cloud but showed up as missing. When the patch came suddenly the game save was restored.

NOW, I start the game after restore and I get no GFW live client running at all and a 0% save. Upon reinstall of GFW Live, the client overlay came back but the save stayed at 0%. The save file in its location in my steam folder shows a last modified date of 4/25, the date i reinstalled. I tried to revert to a prior version with a date of 2/15 (This is the last time I played before the patch, so even if it worked I would only lose the little bit I played post patch) but this results in the same 0% complete.

It looks like my save file has been overwritten locally and on the cloud. Which begs the question. Why use Steam Cloud if it doesn't even sync properly.

Does ANYONE know if the surefire way to manually backup and restore game saves so I can just do this myself next time since clearly Rocksteady/WB can't be counted on to fix it?

Did the save show up as 0% or EMPTY when you reinstalled GFWL? Could you zip up all the saves and upload them somewhere? I'll see if they're recoverable.

In the meantime, if you plan on replaying just copy and paste saves into a backup location.

Re: I thought the patch was supposed to fix the misisng save file issue

Yeah, the patch restored my 80 some percent file and I was relieved. It hadn't saved any of the challenge progress apparently, but that was okay, since I could deal with it one last time.

Nope! After getting up to 92% and with one challenge to go to get one of the few remaining achievements, I return to the game to find it has yet again destroyed my saves and all four files read empty, even the previously 92% one and another that had only been at single digit percentage. I (stupidly) started a file in the same slot as the near complete one, in disbelief, hoping it would just be a momentary error and it was all actually there, but no such luck. Afterwards both files that previously had saves in them registered 0%.

I'll echo the OP's question: is there a surefire way to back these up myself? I had tried backing up saves back before the patch supposedly fixed it, but pasting the backups in led to zero results, apparently because I hadn't also copied the GFWL profile folder or something. Is there a guaranteed set of folders you can copy and reliably restore your own saves?

And please god Rocksteady, do not ever use GFWL ever again.

There's a post on the Steam forums that details how to back up saves: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2331974

If you have any old backup saves I can see if there's any info left in them, but you're probably out of luck with that 92% save since you overwrote it by starting a new game. Have you tried seeing if there were any previous versions backed up? The link above shows how to look for previous versions.

Was that 92% story progress or 92% overall progress? If you're desperate, I have a few saves you could use. One is 70%, with everything collected in the main game, but NG+ and all challenges/campaigns have yet to be done. I also have my own personal save, with the normal story 100% and all challenges/campaigns done, so only NG+ is left.

The 92% was overall progress, alas. I found the old backups which didn't work before, but for some reason do now -- I don't know if that's the effect of the patch or what, but it's a relief. They're more like 80% overall completion, and none seem to save Catwoman challenge room progress, but whatever, I don't have to grind out all the trophies to unlock rooms again.

Before checking these saves, I copied out the file that once was 92%, and swapped it back in after they proved to work, and its slot on the file select screen now says 'corrupted save' in big red letters, a message I'd never seen before. Is that something salvageable? If not, I'm happy to have most progress restored, even if it means I have to do the Top of the World Extreme campaigns for the fourth time.

Yes, the reason the old backups didn't work before was because you didn't back up your Xlive folder. However, the patch made it so that the game ignores all the encryption nonsense. It only ignores the encryption once, though. After you play with that save and save again, encryption will once again be enforced (though there are easy ways around it).

If it's marked "CORRUPTED SAVE" it's less likely to be recoverable, and I'm still pretty sure that the file was overwritten when you started a new game in that slot. Still, if you wanna upload it somewhere I'll take a look.

And I really feel for you, dude. I spent the last 2 weeks finishing up the challenges and campaigns, and if I had all that progress wiped out I would be beyond upset. I hope they skip the campaigns in the next game; they mostly ended up being frustrating filler.

If's not much hassle, I suppose it's worth a try, since the patch had restored something similar. Here it is: http://tinyurl.com/7umxvby

If it is a hassle though, don't worry about it. It's nice to have recovered most of it, and having had to pass some of the worst challenges repeatedly I should at some point be really good at them.

I took a look and it looks like what a new game looks like, so all the info was indeed overwritten, sorry

No worries! I knew it was a mistake to start in that slot when it came up empty, but I was in disbelief that saves were still getting wiped. Oh well, lesson learned, backups forever. Thanks for the help! I wouldn't have looked into the backups again and found some that work now had you not pointed to it, so now I can actually suck it up and pick up the Harley DLC instead of just glowering.

    Thanks again!
