    Unofficial Announcements Thread

    Hello All,
I imagine it is as annoying for all of us to scavenge around the forum for SarahMay's answers in the forums, as it is for her to repeat herself over and over. I will attempt to set off a centralised thread with the latest update information.

EDIT: My aim and opinion of this thread has changed. It was set out to be a voluntary compromise and a gesture of help towards the devs and the rep. The gesture was gladly accepted and some potential promises were made by the rep (thread got stickied), soon to become ignored and discarded altogether (the rep disappeared and the thread got unstickied).
From now on, for me this thread symbolizes WB's and Rocksteady's interest in their customers, as well as the customer service they care to provide (the answer is none in both cases). The thread also keeps track of the "laid back" attitude towards resolving any of the existing issues or keeping with existing promises.

As of currently, this is the latest update we have:

Back online, baby! Woo-hoo! (a good "woo-hoo" this time).
I thank Sarah (my parents and the academy) for cleaning this thread and giving it back to me.
It is time for a bit of an overhaul, which I will do at a later stage. I am hungry now.

    17.03.12__________________________________________ _________________________
EDIT: Woo-hoo, right? Anyways, I think I am more than justified to remind you guys of my other thread here: http://community.batmanarkhamcity.co...197#post239197
I have amended the draft to include the most recent and exciting information. Please read through it and if you accept, disseminate it at will.

A happy midnight update from Sarah... Closerererererer just got reverted back to four months ago - "working hard, preparing the patch for testing".
Grats everybody, we just got owned again! Well, ok, at least I did...

As a side note - "uploading to Steam servers" was a complete and utter lie as it turns out... Right in the face, eh..

Here is a sketch to cheer us up anyway..
    Sketch of the day: http://i44.tinypic.com/6fcmkm.jpg

Oh and here is the quote itself, almost forgot:

To provide a bit of insight into the process:

    • STEAM and G4WL require 2 different exes and have different certification processes, which is why you see two different time scales
    • Both exes are tested by Rocksteady, Warner and then the partner. This part of the process can sometimes bring new issues to light : if this is the case then the team at Rocksteady will need to investigate the bug and fix it and resubmit the exe
    • The exe/patch is then submitted for certification and the bundled exe is tested on a staging server
    • Once it passes Rocksteady then receive the bundled exe and run final tests
    • The exe/patch is then submitted to the partners server for scheduling to go live onto public servers

As you can see we have a lot of checks and processes to go through, the STEAM patch is currently ( and we remain confident this will go live later today) in scheduling whereas the G4WL patch is back with Rocksteady for final tests.

Some clarification on STEAM and GFWL-only versions:

The STEAM version of the game has different code and will only accept a patch through STEAM, G4WL recognises this.

The great news is that the patch is now being uploaded to our digital partners servers, this process may take a day or 2. However it means that the PC patch will be avaliable for you to download this week.

We would like to thank you for your incredible support and patience. We are planning the full news release which will include the fixes, to hit in the following days.

    Thanks

Weather isn't getting any better, patch isn't getting any closer, updates aren't getting any more convincing.... Am I growing old?
I will recall the things I am awaiting a reply for, so that I don't forget myself:

    - The patch release notes (yea, obviously, ok)

    - Overhaul of the forum rules and guidelines (was told that it is not soon, but I'm still waiting)

    - Reply on the whole "loss of trust and what will you do to improve" post by chipperMDW (was told it is likely to come together with the patch)

    - How the patch will affect existing save games (potentially a part of number one)

What else... I will add if I remember.

EDIT: Ok my rage is over, and how I expected that thread is now locked, so I have grayed out my previous comments below. They are still there, I still stand by my words.

The forum is buzzing today, a dozen new threads, a hundred new comments(maybe because today is "the next day or so"), most important things first:

Shy developers? The beginning of a true customer feedback? A seed of doubt that there will inevitably be more patches? This and a lot more(not really, actually) is in this statement:

dev diary* - a suggestion has been made to SarahMay that for better clearer tracking of progress on an ongoing patch or project, it would be extremely beneficial to have a direct feedback from the devs in terms of a regularly updated diary (lab journal, if you must) by the devs about the bugs they squashed and the new ones they encountered. So that we see things are being done.

Speaking to them we expect to hear back in the next few days, however we have to manage a US/UK time difference aswell.

We cannot confirm an 'average' time for approvals as it differs for every party and each patch is different, for example this patch has some more significant code changes than previous patches.

If I may comment personally, I used to consider a long weekend as a brief vacation. And 28-10=18, almost three weeks if you include the fact that it has been quiet here since the 8th...

I guess if you put this "brief"; against the "coming soon" that we have been hearing for the last 2-3 months, it kinda makes sense.

This is in reply to WarlordATF in another thread, he said that a lot of the confusion and upset players could be avoided if any of the other moderators replied to the posts in Sarah's absence. Here is the magical "working hard" again...
Personal remark, again, if one 100% understands the frustration of people who are being ignored, why does one proceed to continue ignoring them?

Some philosophic thoughts: If an update gets released while the rep is on holiday and no one hears about it, does it still get released?

    EDIT:
In some other lovely news, here is what the stalkers brought from the field:
Well, the latest relevant news on SarahMay according to her Twitter account, is that she's back from holiday but she's not coming to work &"for a few days".
She must have gotten tired from being on holiday and needs some time to recover. Understandable, I get that all the time.

Once again, no real news. The forums seem to be stirring with an influx of new people with new problems - trophies, not being able to pick stuff up, lags and freezes - a whole new bunch of problems. Maybe it is the spring...

EDIT: You gotta be effing kidding me!!! Started a new game yesterday just for the sake of it, played for a bit, saved, left the game, went back into the game, played some more... Launch it today, get a "Sign in error", it relogins fine, and guess what? THE SAVE IS GONE!... Hahaha, my god. I must be one of the unluckiest people, I guess, as steamforums are filled with people who have "Played this game for 400+ hours and never lost a save"... *facepalm*
This really is getting on my err...nerves...

EDIT2: Tried getting my "old" gfwl key back by rolling back to a previous version of the "XLive"folder.. Didn't work. A lot of voodoo dancing, and all for nothing. And you WB/RS are still silent about the patch and when or whether it is coming... Sigh.

Quite usually, there is nothing to report. I have made a more or less final version of the draft letter here (http://community.batmanarkhamcity.com/forums/showthread.php/14824-Draft-of-public-statement-from-unhappy-gamers)
There are also a number of links that you can simply click and send the letter to (if you agree with it). I have proceeded to send that particular draft to most of the listed links and will update here and there on the progress.

    EDIT:
Some interesting news, people! I mentioned this in the "Public statement" thread too. A couple of people, who have sent out the letter to a few gaming sites have reported to have been contacted by a Kotaku representative (myself included).
I have posted the letter I got together with the reply in the thread, there is a link to the post in the very first post (...we must go deeper...). I have since been contacted by Kotaku once more repeating some of the questions about my personal experience, because I did a shoddy job of answering them about my personal problems.
Whether or not it gets any further is obviously up to Kotaku, we might be not interesting or credible enough for them, but it is a start nonetheless.

I would like to keep all of the discussions about the letter in that thread, if it is possible. Also, bear in mind, it is 3am, so the letter draft is most likely rubbish.. So feel free to pick out mistakes and make suggestions and such.

The news has it that SarahMay is due back from her most exciting holiday in the next week or so (it's been two weeks, people say she is on a 3 week trip, you do the maths). I wonder, I wonder, will we get some news...(not)
In regards to my yesterday's statement, I got some support from some people, some valid and appreciated cautionary tales and some ridicule. I will nonetheless proceed to put all of my rather limited english language skills to form some sort of sound "official statement" from the "unhappy customers", to put it nicely. I will probably make a separate thread to encourage active discussion, when I get some time, tomorrow probably... My ideal plan is then to have as many people as are willing to simply spread that statement around. As simple as copy-paste-and-send.
To discourage the most obvious ridicule (didn't get much of that somehow, but still) I do not intend to be the leader of resistance and lead a particular group of people to a particular holy land.. I do not expect any sizable outcome from anything I do (which is quite sad, come to think about it), and if it works(whatever that implies) - that's great.

    EDIT: Holy smokes Batman,

It has now been almost three weeks since we have been last touched by the holy presence of the community rep. But fear not, brethren, there might be other things out there we can stupidly sit and wait for. It is spring time (almost) so lets go outside and watch grass grow.
On a more serious note, it seems evident that we are not going to get any "customer service" as such from the companies. That directly implies that they are willingly disregarding their customers (and you never do that), which means their corporate face should get damaged (we lose trust in them)... However, even though there are a lot of us, the game itself has quite a secluded fanbase, so, in fact, pretty much nobody knows that the company is "losing face" as such, so it essentially is in the clear with the outer media society.
I suggest we fix that... Not a provocation to get them to respond or release the patch quicker, not a punishment or revenge, but a fair action of letting other people know about the lack of service, lack of communication, piles of bugs, delayed patches, etc etc etc... If anybody knows anybody who is associated with a gaming news site (Rockpapershotgun, Kotaku, whatever) - tell them our story. It is also worth trying to contact the editors directly, although I have seen on the forums that someone has done it with no response... But if enough of us do it, they will have no choice but to mention it in their news.
I will try to compile a statement that I will post in this thread that everybody will then be free to copy and send to a particular gaming site of their choice. Please feel free to criticize what I write, as the statement will be representing your opinion.
EDIT: Just would like to add that I do not expect any result from this. It is just something I think could and should be done, and I would like to see if it works.

One of the more interesting quotes about publisher-customer relationship:
You know, it’s a really bad idea to start off on the assumption that your customers are on the other side of some sort of battle with you.
    and another one:

Recently I was in a meeting and there’s a company that had a third party DRM solution and we showed them look, this is what happens, at this point in your life cycle your DRM got hacked, right? Now let’s look at the data, did your sales change at all? No, your sales didn’t change one bit. Right? So here’s before and after, here’s where you have DRM that annoys your customers and causing huge numbers of support calls and in theory you would think that you would see a huge drop off in sales after that got hacked, and instead there was absolutely no difference in sales before or after.

    1) Does not use GFWL (or SecuROM...)

    4) Runs smooth as butter on a system that meets the requirements

Lots of news this time, none of em good. Thread got unstickied, so we are now the Underground...
Also, according to a particular Mr.Stalker Stalkinson, SarahMay is on holiday and the patch is nowhere in sight..
The poll from the previous update("what is more likely") returned the following results (roughly):
    1) "Are you stupid?"
    2) Alien takeover of the Earth
    3) HL3

I have provided this information several times, I just cannot provide a full detailed breakdown this is because as you have seen not all aspects have been fully tested and there is no benefit for me listing them and then having to retract them.

    The 3 fixes focus on:

    Save files being lost/restored
    Stuttering Cutscenes
    Improvements to DX

    SarahMay
And this is a more or less detailed explanation about the delay I have received on the 4th of Feb:

In short the delay we now have is that we created a fix for the save file, we tested it across all pc platforms and we found that while it fixed the save file issue it created another unexpected issue.

All fixes are tested across every digital partner and on different machines and we can't risk putting out a fix that creates a whole new set of problems.

We are working to release a fix that will include several solutions rather than several smaller updates as this will create a greater ease of customer service and works better with partners.

The post you are referring to has significantly helped in leading us to the core problem and fixing it, our technical director followed it step by step!We wouldn't of been able to make the progress we have made without the phenomenal support of this community and all the details they have provided.

Again we are sorry if you don't feel you have had enough information but we are trying to get these fixes out asap.

More on the reasons behind delays as of 08 of Feb in reply to asking if there is just one sad guy doing the fixes and testing:

Please feel free to add to this thread in my absence, lets help ourselves help us help ourselves to be calm and concentrate all the whining in one topic.

DRM limitations are a punishment for the paying customer and an encouragement to seek better service elsewhere...
And then they complain about piracy.

So are we back to point "0"?!?! All this waiting and the problem still cannot be solved?!?! I can understand the delay in fixing DX11/Graphics problems as it requires intensive work and high level of technical experience., but for Save disappearing problem, no, this is a very basic feature in any game and there are thousands of games (from normal to AAA titles) in the market where they don't have such critical and annoying bug, and RS should be technical enough to implement this very basic feature!!!

Many of us reported about the problem that GFWL is missing some achievements (while Steam is not) and I can't see that this problem has been considered!!!

My openion is to 100% focus on solving the Save file bug because this bug is preventing us from playing the game. I don't see a problem if you release a patch to fix only the Save file bug, then release another patch for the other bugs.

Anyway, I don't think any of the reported problems have been fixed yet. Never pre-order RS/WB game anymore.

Also, reviewers should take notice of this and should not give high scores to unfinished games!!!

    Re: SarahMay Announcement Thread

The game was pushed back "to enhance the pc version" That was bad enough but I was OK with it if the end result was good. It was not as everyone knows. But I got over that really quick even though the game was buggy as hell, but I had no idea getting a fix from release date until now would take so god damn long. Rocksteady should give up and go to work at Tesco, I hear they need trolley pushers. This amount of time waiting for a patch to fix the save game bug is totally wrong.

So you need to understand the bugs were not really the issue at launch even though you had all that extra time to "enhance it" we forgive you for that, but I don't think you will be forgiven the amount of time this has taken and still is taking as we are no closer then we were at launch. I paid full price at launch and I could not play the game, now I can pick it up in a bargain bucket for a tenner. I feel great about that. I paid the higher launch price so I could actually play at launch. Not 2-3 months or however long this will actually take in the end.

It's not "whining". It's one thing for people to complain about DX11 performance when the game can be played in DX9 with very little perceptible difference but consumers whose game has been sabotaged by the vanishing save bug are confronted with an experience that nobody who buys a product in good faith should have to deal with. To their credit -- unless either they or SarahMay are merely spinning it -- it appears that the devs understand this and are working to remedy the situation, although this ugly flaw should have been addressed earlier and the fix issued sooner. I'm not a "whiner" by nature and neither are most of the people whose enjoyment of the game has been destroyed by the disappearing save files.

I suggest that, to keep this thread clean, it be read-only, i.e. available only to SarahMay to post in.

It is very frustrating to purchase a game i haven't been able to play for well over 2 months because my save games are constantly deleted. This issue should have been addressed and dealt with promptly. Being stuck without the option to return said game or even any sort of compensation for giving my money for something i cannot use. This is becoming the norm for buying a PC game, for example skyrim, another game released that is rendered unplayable right from release because of the memory issue. I dont why we bend to these companies who are content to take our money and then give us f grade support for their products.

Fortunately, I have not had this happen to me, yet I haven't played it in over a month due to a fear that mine will get lost as well. Many have lost theirs in the challenges section, which was amazingly fun in AA; however, I have yet to touch that section of the game because I don't want to lose my save. It's pretty sad that I can't play a game that I want to play for this reason - especially since it's been a problem for so long after release.

I don't think you should be calling me a whiner because we lose our save games do you lick **** KIO? In my 27 years of gaming I have never had a game delete my save game ever. It's a school boy mistake. I don't really care about DX11 tbh, I would be happy to play through on DX9, but losing save games still after all this time??? Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I feel "speshl", I got my own sticky thread, beat that....
Bear in mind when I say "whine" I mean myself included, as I was not able to play the game since I lost my save game about 6-7 weeks ago. And I also finally registered on the forum to vent my anger and whine at SarahMay for not giving honest and detailed responses and at the company in general for not giving a damn about customer experience.
I merely try to look at it with some irony though. You guys do understand that saying angry things about those damnable and nasty people over and over and over in every topic that another one of us creates will not in any way speed up (or ensure) the release of the patch?
Hence I suggested and made a "Daily News" topic where we can all come and continue to be frustrated rather than spread it over the whole of the forum, which is supposed to be dedicated to resolving resolvable technical issues.
